The Company of the National Centre for Learning Welsh

The National Centre for Learning Welsh is a Limited Company under guarantee without capital shares. The only member of the company under the Articles of Association is the University of Wales Trinity St David. In order to establish and run a limited company under guarantee a Board of Directors has been appointed. The company’s first directors are the Venerable Randolph Thomas, Eifion Griffiths and Maria Stedman.

The corporate and constitutional aspects of the National Centre for Learning Welsh are the responsibility of the Board of Directors of the Company of the National Centre for Learning Welsh.

Advisory Board to the Company of the National Centre for Learning Welsh

The Articles of Association for the National Centre for Learning Welsh allow for the Directors to appoint an Advisory Board.

The duty of the Centre’s Advisory Board under the Articles of Association is to ensure the Centre is:

  • a visible institution setting national strategic direction for the Welsh for Adults sector;
  • provides leadership to Welsh for Adults providers;
  • raises standards of teaching and learning in Welsh for Adults; and
  • develops an engaging, appropriate and high quality curriculum and produces resources suitable for all types of learners

Welsh Government Scrutiny Committee

In addition to receiving advice from the Advisory Board, the National Centre for Learning Welsh will be accountable to the Welsh Government. The Centre’s work will be examined by an independent Scrutiny Committee set up by the Government.

The Committee’s role will be to scrutinise the Centre’s work on behalf of the Welsh Government and advise the Welsh Government on matters such as value for money and how the Centre responds to Welsh Government policies.
