For the first time since before the pandemic, a residential course for Welsh learners will be held at Gwersyll yr Urdd Glan-llyn, which is an outdoor activity residential centre in Bala, in Snowdonia National Park.
The course, which is held between 29 April - 1 May 2022, will be an opportunity for learners at Sylfaen/Foundation + levels to immerse themselves in the Welsh language, while learning about the Bala area and enjoying the Urdd centre’s outdoor activities, which include sailing and paddle-boarding.
The Welsh language is widely spoken in Bala and Llanuwchllyn, the nearest town and village to the centre. All the centre’s staff speak Welsh, with Learn Welsh tutors on hand to lead the activities.
Course organiser, Eirian Conlon, who works for the National Centre for Learning Welsh, said, "We’re delighted to be able to offer this course again at Glan-llyn. It’s a great opportunity for learners to enjoy speaking Welsh with staff, locals and other learners while getting to know the area better.
“The course is for those who are following the Sylfaen/Foundation, Canolradd/Intermediate, Uwch/Advanced or Gloywi/Proficiency level courses, as all the activities will be held through the medium of Welsh.
“The centre is well-known for its water-based activities, and learners will get the opportunity to try out activities like canoeing, paddle boarding and sailing, ten pin bowling and swimming in the centre’s pool.
"During the weekend, some local people will be coming round for a chat, and we plan to visit a local pub, the Eagles in Llanuwchllyn, to enjoy the atmosphere and to speak Welsh with staff and customers."
The course costs £150, which includes a single en-suite room, food and all activities.
Registration closes April 4th, 2022.
