Welcome to Care and Comfort in Welsh
These resources have been created especially for Palliative Care workers in Wales. They’ve been developed with assistance and input from specialists in the sector to make sure that the language introduced is relevant and useful.
The learning resource is useful if you’re just starting out on your journey to learn Welsh, or if you’d like to build your confidence to start using the Welsh you already know at work.

What's included in the Learning Resource?
- Awareness: Why is the Welsh language important in palliative care? Video case studies from Hywel Dda and Swansea Bay Health Board.
- Learn: Taster Course – Care and Comfort in Welsh
- Unit 1: Croeso (Welcome) – Simple words and phrases to use when greeting and welcoming people
- Unit 2: The Body, Mind and Emotions – simple vocabulary to use when discussing symptoms and assessing patients
- Unit 3: What’s important to you? – words, phrases and questions to convey empathy, understanding and offer comfort in Welsh
- Unit 4: Optional additional learning – the alphabet and pronunciation, telling the time, days of the week, months of the year
- Unit 5: A list of all the vocabulary introduces in Units 1-3
- PDF list of the vocabulary introduced in Units 1-3
Nant Gwrtheyrn – Use your Welsh with Confidence course
A Welsh immersion course specifically designed for Palliative Care worers in Wales who can already speak some Welsh but would like to develop their confidence to use their Welsh at work. Course dates: 31 March - 4 April 2025.
