Siarad Scheme guidelines

You're participating in the Siarad Scheme at your own risk and are expected to take all precautions. Here are simple guidelines to help you stay safe.

  • You must be over 18 to participate in the scheme.
  • It could be a good idea to use a separate email address to participate.
  • Be careful not to share any personal information, such as credit card details, bank names, pet names or your mother's maiden name, which could be used to access financial information.
  • If you participate in the scheme, you do not need to share your phone number, workplace name or any other information about yourself.
  • After being paired, you'll receive an email introducing you to your Siarad partner.  It may take some time to find a suitable partner, but we'll contact you directly once this happens.  If you want to change your partner, you can do so by contacting your local provider.
  • You can agree with each other how often you meet and for how long.
  • You can arrange meetings to practise speaking and attend community events together, such as societies, choirs, concerts, dramas or virtual chats.
  • You can discuss daily topics or talk about things you've seen, done or read.
  • When registering, you agree to us using your data to keep in touch with you, and for your local provider to share your email address and first name with your Siarad partner.  Only your email address and first name will be shared with the Siarad partner.
