History of the Eisteddfod
The first Eisteddfod took place at Cardigan Castle in 1176, where poets and musicians from all over Wales gathered to compete in the chair competition.
The first 'modern' Eisteddfod was held in Aberdare in 1861 and has since developed and evolved into the annual cultural festival we celebrate today. Eisteddfod y Garreg Las this year will be held 850 years since the first Eisteddfod in Cardigan.
