Ask Ewa

Ewa Wawrzyszuk is learning Welsh with the National Centre for Learning Welsh’s workplace-based learning schemes, and now uses Welsh regularly in her day-to-day work.

Ewa works for a building company in Llanelli and moved there from Poland in 2007.

Here, we chat to Ewa about her language journey...

Why did you move to Wales?

I moved to Wales with my boyfriend for work.  We are now married, and we didn’t have any connections with Wales before we moved.

Do you speak any other languages?

I speak Polish and English, and now Welsh too.

What is your job?

I work as an Accounts Assistant for a building company.

Why did you start learning Welsh?

Now that I’ve settled here, I want to be able to speak the language I hear being spoken locally.

What difference has learning Welsh made to you?

I am more comfortable when I’m out and about, as I’m able to contribute to conversations.

How do you practise speaking Welsh outside the classroom?

I try to speak as much Welsh as possible with colleagues in the office.

What kind of situations do you use Welsh in at work?

I use Welsh when greeting Welsh-speaking customers on the phone or by email.

Any advice for other learners who want to start learning Welsh?

Don’t wait - just do it!

Your next step with Welsh?

To continue learning, and hopefully move on to the next level.
