Celebrating learning Welsh – Wythnos Dathlu Dysgu Cymraeg

A week-long celebration of learning Welsh – ‘Wythnos Dathlu Dysgu Cymraeg’ - is a joint initiative between the National Centre for Learning Welsh, BBC Radio Cymru, and S4C, with the aim of celebrating all the inspiring individuals learning Welsh across the country.

Thousands of learners

Every year, thousands of people learn Welsh with the Centre – over 18,000 in 2023–2024 – and demand for our courses continues to grow. This week is a chance to say ‘diolch’ - thank you - to our learners and their tutors for their enthusiasm and commitment to the Welsh language.

New Welsh voices

Throughout the week, BBC Radio Cymru and S4C are shining a light on new Welsh speakers, with interviews and features across the schedules.

Wide range of learning opportunities

The Centre offers a wide range of learning opportunities, from beginners to confidence-building. Learners can follow face-to-face and online courses, in their communities and workplaces. There are many different pathways to the language, and the Centre supports learners every step of the way.

Enjoying Welsh

One of the Centre’s key priorities is to create opportunities for learners to enjoy using their Welsh outside the classroom, and tuning into Radio Cymru and S4C is a great way to do just that. During the ‘Wythnos Dathlu Dysgu Cymraeg’, learners will also be able to enjoy a virtual Q&A with Radio Cymru presenters, and ‘behind the scenes’ visits to BBC and S4C sites.
