Welsh Skills

One clear pathway to becoming a Welsh speaker
Welsh Skills

When learning Welsh, it’s helpful to have one clear pathway to follow.

A series of steps guides learners from one level to the next – from beginners to confident speakers.

Courses, activities and resources are available to support you at every stage of your journey.

The Learn Welsh Pathway and the CEFR

The Learn Welsh pathway aligns with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), an internationally recognised framework used widely to describe language skills.

It helps learners understand where they are on their Welsh language journey and how to progress to the next level.

Here are the Learn Welsh levels (with corresponding CEFR levels in brackets)

- Entry (A1)

- Foundation (A2)

- Intermediate (B1)

- Advanced (B2)
