Learn Welsh Digital Resources

The Centre provides a variety of learning materials for tutors, including:

  • course books

  • resource packs

  • power point presentations

  • a range of digital resources

Tutors can access these materials through a dedicated section on learnwelsh.cymru called Academi – a platform exclusively for tutors.

Learn Welsh

Around 18,000 people learn Welsh with the Centre every year. Classes are offered at five levels from beginner (Entry) to fluent (Proficiency), and are available both in the community and online, at various times throughout the day and evening.

At the end of each course level, learners can choose to sit a WJEC exam. To learn more about the Learn Welsh levels, select the following button:

Tutor Qualifications

Personal development sessions are held with each individual tutor. The local providers and the Centre offer training sessions for tutors annually. Local providers often encourage new tutors to complete the Dechrau Dysgu qualification, which includes two residential weekends and regular virtual sessions. Teaching practice is a key element of this qualification.

Using the Welsh language

One of the Centre’s primary goals is to create confident Welsh speakers who enjoy using the language. As a tutor, you’ll encourage students to practise their Welsh outside class by taking part in activities such as: Siawns am Sgwrs (conversation sessions), coffee mornings, reading club, the Amdani Reading Festival, walking tours and other local community events.

A scheme called Using My Welsh encourages learners to set realistic and achievable goals. One of the informal learning schemes is Cynllun Siarad, which matches Welsh learners with Welsh speakers  – why not volunteer?

Tutor’s Voice

What’s the best thing about being a tutor? The fun, laughter and getting to know people you would never meet otherwise. And of course, seeing (and hearing) your learners succeed.
What inspired you to become a Welsh tutor? I wanted to help people learn the language, so they could integrate into the community and embrace the local culture.
Advice for new tutors: Prepare thoroughly and have a lot of fun. Go and observe other tutors as soon as you can – there’s no better way to learn!
