These courses are mainly provided to improve confidence and proficiency of the workforce in Wales so that they can return to the workplace, feeling more confident and able to use more Welsh in their day-to-day work.
Information about Nant Gwrtheyrn 'Use' Work Welsh Courses
The 'Use' Work Welsh courses are five-day courses that focus on building confidence in order to increase the use of Welsh in the workplace and beyond. The courses are offered as residential courses and virtual courses at Intermediate, Advanced, Proficiency - Speaking and Proficiency - Writing level.
-5 days from Monday to Friday
-Located at Nant Gwrtheyrn Language Center on the Llŷn Peninsula (LL536NL)
-An experienced tutor who will give you guidance, advice and support throughout the week
-Accommodation in a single en-suite room included
-Full refreshments from breakfast, lunch and dinner included
-An evening of entertainment on Tuesday evening
-A visit to a local attraction on Wednesday afternoon
-Course finishes at 1 o'clock on the Friday to give you enough time to travel home
-An informal telephone conversation will be arranged to ensure registration at the correct level
-All fully funded*
-*Option to book an extra night's accommodation for the Sunday night before the course at a cost of £55 (bed and breakfast)
-5 days from Monday to Friday
-Between 10:00 and 16:00 daily
-Virtual classes over Zoom
-An experienced tutor who will give you guidance, advice and support throughout the week
-An informal telephone conversation will be arranged to ensure registration at the correct level
-Fully funded
We can facilitate sectoral courses for a minority of 8 (a maximum of 14) from the same workplace or organisation at Intermediate, Advanced, Proficiency – Writing or Proficiency – Speaking level. We would have to assess each individual's level in advance to ensure that everyone is at the same level. Please get in touch if you would like more information.

A learner’s experience in Nant Gwrtheyrn
The main learning outcomes of the courses - 'Use' Work Welsh Courses:
-Be able to converse in Welsh in a supportive environment
-Be able to recognise and use vocabulary relevant to your work
-Have a vocabulary that will enable you to contribute sufficiently in bilingual meetings
-Be able to use technical support resources e.g. Cysgliad and online dictionaries
-Understand the difference between formal and informal language registers
-Be able to give a simple presentation on a topic that is familiar to you
-Be more confident when writing simple Welsh
-Be able to converse confidently in Welsh in an informal environment
-Be able to use formal and informal language in different situations
-Be able to hold extended presentations on various topics
-Be able to provide written presentations relating to your work
-Be more confident with grammatical issues and know where to find information and help
-Have recognised and will be able to use extended vocabulary relevant to your work including some technical terms
-Be able to use technical support resources e.g. Online dictionaries and dictionaries
-Be able to write e-mails to other colleagues and write short reports
-Be more confident when asking and answering questions correctly in Welsh
-Be more confident when operating and administering through the medium of Welsh
-Be more confident in your ability to use Welsh correctly in different contexts and registers
-Be more confident when speaking about topics related to your work
-Be more confident to present and contribute in meetings in Welsh using correct and standard language
-Understand and will be able to use grammatical rules confidently in order to enrich your spoken language
-Be able to use technical support resources e.g. Cysgliad and online dictionaries appropriately and effectively
-Be more confident when operating and administering through the medium of Welsh
-Be more confident when using written Welsh correctly in different contexts and registers
-Be more confident when writing emails, articles, statements and reports in Welsh
-Understand and will be able to use grammatical rules confidently in order to enrich your written language
Work Welsh Residential Courses
The courses are offered at three levels
The main aim of the ‘Use’ Work Welsh courses is to give everyone who wishes to improve their Welsh language skills the opportunity to gain confidence in using them.
Suitable for those wishing to develop their skills so that their Welsh flows more naturally when speaking the language.
-An opportunity for you to speak and converse in Welsh in a positive and supportive atmosphere
-Glossary and technical terms for the workplace
-Opportunity to practice
-Meeting-specific terms
-Online support such as Cysill and the Ap Geiriaduron
-Language register - texting or emailing colleagues
-Providing directions, organising and conducting projects in Welsh
-Use the media and social media to practice your Welsh
-Issues that can be a little intimidating such as mutations, male or female verb forms, prepositions etc.
This course is perfect for people who already feel quite comfortable speaking Welsh in social and informal contexts but need help and support in using Welsh more effectively in the workplace.
-Formal and informal language in different situations
-Practice oral and written presentations
-Accuracy and finding answers to linguistic questions
-Technical terms used in Welsh and bilingual workplaces
-The support that technology can offer you when you write in Welsh
-Write notes, emails and short reports to colleagues and others
-Conduct interviews and give presentations in Welsh
-Linguistic issues such as numbering and ordering, mutations, verb tenses etc
-Ask and answer questions correctly
-Understand how you can help yourself in improving your language skills.
This course is aimed specifically at people who already feel comfortable in using Welsh but who need to further develop their skills in using the language more formally either orally or in writing in the workplace.
Two different courses are provided at Proficiency level. One course will offer a combination of refining oral skills and writing skills. The second course will focus more closely on improving written skills, although some attention will also be given to formal speaking skills.
