What is Siarad?
Siarad is a voluntary scheme to increase learners’ confidence and introduce them to opportunities to use their Welsh locally
How does the scheme work?
Once you've been paired with your Siarad partner, you can arrange to meet to practise your Cymraeg. You might want to go to Welsh-language activities in your area, such as gigs, choirs or societies. Or you can just catch up over a cuppa. The main thing is to meet in public places. And, of course, you can also chat virtually, over Zoom or Skype, for instance.
Can anyone take part?
This is a voluntary scheme, with Welsh speakers also introducing learners to more opportunities to use their Welsh.
The scheme is available to learners at Canolradd (Intermediate), Uwch (Advanced) or Gloywi (Proficiency) levels.
You can talk about any topic you agree on together. You can discuss everyday things, or talk about things you have seen, done or read. The sessions you plan together are opportunities for learners to practise their Welsh and become more confident. They are not lessons.
How do I register?
As soon as you are paired with a Siarad partner you'll receive an email introducing you to each other. Finding the right partner might take a little time, but we will contact you as soon as this has been done. You'll then be free to make your own arrangements as to how often you meet and for how long. If you would like to change your ‘Siarad’ partner, you can do so at any time.
To make sure everyone who takes part in this scheme stays safe, please follow these guidelines. You take part in this activity at your own risk, and you are expected to take care at all times. Please get in touch with your local Learn Welsh course provider if you have any questions or concerns at any time. They will be able to support you.
When you sign up, you agree to us using your data to keep you informed and for your local course provider to pass your email address and first name to your assigned Siarad partner. Only your email address and first name will be shared with the person you have been paired with. You must be over 18 to take part, and it helps if you like to ‘Siarad’ or talk!

"Learning a language is like learning to play an instrument - you need constant practice. The aim of this scheme is to develop the confidence and fluency of our learners and to encourage them to use more Welsh in their everyday life."
