New Chief Executive Officer joins rugby Welsh taster session

New Chief Executive Officer joins rugby Welsh taster session

Abi Tierney, Chief Executive Officer of the Welsh Rugby Union, will join a Learn Welsh rugby themed session, just weeks after being appointed to her new position.

Abi will join learners from all corners of Wales and beyond in the virtual taster class on 6 September at 7pm, organised by the National Centre for Learning Welsh.

During the session, relevant phrases and words will be introduced, to encourage learners to follow and support the Welsh rugby team in France next month.

The Centre will work closely with the Welsh Rugby Union over the next period, following the partnership launched between them at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells last month.

The Centre will assist the Welsh Rugby Union to enhance their use of the Welsh language, starting with a series of Learn Welsh classes for the organisation's staff in November.

Over 100 staff members will receive weekly Learn Welsh lessons, and will have access to over 1,500 of the Centre’s digital learning resources.

Dona Lewis, Chief Executive of the National Centre for Learning Welsh said;

"We are looking forward to welcoming Abi to the taster session, and are pleased that a number of the organisation's staff have also registered.  It's exciting that so many of them want to strengthen their Welsh language skills, and we wish them all well.

"This marks the beginning of the journey with the Welsh Rugby Union, and we look forward to working together, to create new opportunities for Welsh rugby supporters to learn and enjoy the Welsh language."

Abi Tierney, Chief Executive Officer of the Welsh Rugby Union added;

‘‘I’m truly looking forward to joining other Welsh rugby supporters at the rugby themed taster session next Wednesday.  As one of Wales’s main institutions, the WRU gladly accepts the privilege and responsibility of promoting our language and heritage.’’
