Confidence Building Sessions

Information about Confidence Building Sessions
Aim

The purpose of these sessions is to change linguistic habits and to raise the confidence of reluctant or insecure speakers, so that they use Welsh when they normally use English. The main motivation for attending confidence building sessions among reluctant/insecure speakers is to use more Welsh in the workplace.

Taking into account the full picture is key when planning sessions. A thorough questionnaire will be presented to each attendee to identify their level of ability / confidence to use Welsh, along with their Welsh skills, so that a group of individuals similar to each other is formed.

Audience

The main audience are individuals who have Welsh speaking skills e.g. brought up speaking Welsh or received Welsh-medium education, but have either given up the practice of using their Welsh (e.g. have changed habit to speak English with family members and friends), or have not had the opportunity to do so (e.g. live in a predominantly English-speaking area).

Due to this change in habits or lack of opportunities, they do not have the confidence to take that step to use their Welsh, fearful of making mistakes or being judged.
