Welcome to the Level Checker page for Social Care Wales. The aim of this page is to collect information about your Welsh language skills.
Firstly, watch the video clips below to learn more about each language levels.
Secondly, complete the questionnaire to let us know what your language levels are for the four language skills – Speaking, Reading, Listening, and Writing.
Entry Level
Entry Level Courses: Courses for beginners; there is an opportunity to learn to talk about day-to-day topics such as your work, the family, friends, and interests. The emphasis is on speaking the language in simple contexts, everyday in the workplace.
Foundation Level
Foundation Level Courses: Courses that teach the foundational patterns of the Welsh language. The main emphasis is on speaking, with opportunities to discuss daily topics such as the family and friends, work and interests.
Intermediate Level
Intermediate Level Courses: Courses that develop Welsh language skills, the aims is to develop speakers that are confident talking about day-to-day matters. There is an opportunity to develop conversational skills, with a little more writing, reading, and listening.
Advanced Level
Advanced Level Courses: These course provide an opportunity to practice discussing topics and themes of all kinds. Learners will also develop their reading, writing and listening skills. The main aim is to nurture confident speakers.
Proficiency Level
Proficiency Level Courses: This level is for fluent learners and Welsh speakers who wish to build confidence to use and enjoy their language skills, whether spoken or written Welsh.
Language Skills Questionnaire
The following questionnaire is specifically for the Social Care Wales workforce. It asks you to answer questions about the course level you think would be best for you in the four language skills: Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Listening.
The Level Checker
You can use the National Centre for Learning Welsh's tool, The Level Checker, to discover your Welsh language level.
The Level Checker gives you an indicator of your Welsh language skills in the four language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.
The Listening and Reading results are available immediately. The other two sections, Speaking and Writing, must be marked by a person, and those results will be available shortly. At present, you will only be able to receive results for your Listening and Reading sections.
