The aim of the week is to provide a platform for more learners’ voices as well as providing more useful content for Welsh learners.

The week will be held mid-October, to coincide with Diwrnod Shwmae Su’mae, and stems from a special partnership between BBC Radio Cymru and the National Centre for Learning Welsh.

“The purpose of this week is to celebrate learning Welsh, expand the provision available and provide a platform for learners’ voices. We know that Radio Cymru is an important resource for a number of learners, and can give them access to wider Welsh culture. That is certainly the experience of my own family members who are learning Welsh. BBC Radio Cymru is home to everyone, from all ages and linguistic backgrounds, who wants to listen to music and programmes in Welsh, therefore we’re very proud to be able to celebrate Welsh learners with this special week.’’

Rhuanedd Richards, Editor of BBC Radio Cymru

“Creating opportunities for learners to practice their Welsh is an important part of the Centre’s work and we know that our learners enjoy using their Welsh by listening to Radio Cymru. This special week will also be an opportunity to celebrate the enthusiasm and commitment of those learning the language. The Centre and Radio Cymru have already collaborated to provide learners’ resources, available from our website, dysgucymraeg.cymru, and we’re very proud to build on that relationship by supporting the week of celebrating Welsh Learning.”

Efa Gruffudd Jones, Chief Executive at the National Centre for Learning Welsh
