Supporting Welsh learners to enjoy new production of Macbeth

Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru has announced that a pack for Welsh learners is available, based on their next production, namely Macbeth.

The pack for Welsh learners was compiled by Nant Gwrtheyrn, in cooperation with Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru and with support from The National Centre for Learning Welsh.

The pack contains information and games for Welsh learners, together with a separate guide for tutors. The material is suitable for Higher and Proficiency classes, and includes activities to complete – some before seeing the play and others following the performance.

Helen Prosser, Director of Strategy at The National Centre for Learning Welsh, said: “It is very important that every aspect of our contemporary culture is open to those who are learning Welsh.  That is why the National Centre for Learning Welsh is very keen to work in partnership with Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru.  The work of compiling packs in order to help learners enjoy productions opens another door for our Welsh learners.”

Mair Saunders, General Manager of Canolfan Nant Gwrtheyrn, said: “We are very proud of the partnership we have built up over a period of time with Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru here at Nant Gwrtheyrn by holding lessons for Welsh learners and compiling packs to support the productions. It is a pleasure to cooperate on a scheme that enables those who are learning Welsh to enjoy Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru’s provision.”

Rhian A. Davies, Executive Producer at Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, added: “Working in cooperation with partners who are experts in their field is very important to us. We look forward to continuing the collaboration with Nant Gwrtheyrn, and embarking on a long-term partnership with the National Centre for Learning Welsh, in order to ensure that our productions are relevant to everyone.”

Live performances of Macbeth will be held in Caerphilly Castle 7 – 18 February and also, by means of the new, exciting enterprise Theatr Gen Byw, the production will be broadcast live to venues across Wales on 14 February, and repeat screening  performances with English subtitles will follow until the end of April.
